The Kano Police Command has just confirmed the arrest of two suspects and recovered 14 bags of fake specimen ballot papers fron their possession.
The State Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kano today, stating that the suspects were apprehended around Metro Police Area Command, in Kano metropolis.
He said that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday evening by some Police officers attached to Metro Area Command in the metropolis.
Haruna said during interrogation, the suspects said they came from Jigawa State, and that the materials were meant for sensitisation and orientation purpose.
“The ballot papers are specimen, so, they are not genuine ballot papers,” Haruna explained.
He said investigation was still ongoing, as the case had since been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Development.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it has filed a suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the attendance of two Nigerien governors at the APC rally in Kano.
The defendants in the suit also included the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Minister of Interior, who appeared as the 2nd and 3rd defendants in the suit respectively.
It would be recalled that Governor Issa Moussa of Zinder and Governor Zakiri Umar of Maradi, in Niger republic, attended the APC Kano rally which held on January 31.
The party wants the court to issue an order directing the 1st to 3rd defendants to preclude and ensure that foreigners/aliens do not participate in the 2019 general elections.
The PDP is also seeking an order restraining APC from inviting or in any way involving foreigners in its rallies and campaigns.
